Highlights from Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) “2021 Annual Report to the Community,” released earlier today. The WCRC has 135 employees.

With $66 million in revenue and $71 million in expenses, the WCRC completed the following in construction.

  • 102 miles of seal coat
  • 28 miles of resurfacing
  • 8 miles of unpaved road improvements
  • 6 intersection projects
  • 6 bridge replacements, rehabilitations
  • 2 safety improvement projects

Presently, “52% of paved, improved roads under WCR’s jurisdiction are now in good condition; another 25% are “fair,” 23% “poor.”

WCRC is responsible for 1,650 centerline miles of certified public roads throughout the county.

  • 743 miles of these roads are unpaved.
  • In addition, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) contracts WCRC to maintain 598 lane miles of state highways within the county.
  • There are 126 bridges located on county roads under WCRC’s jurisdiction.
  • WCRC maintains more than 30,000 road signs located across the county.
  • WCRC owns 103 stop-and-go traffic signals and maintains 66 additional stop-and-go traffic signals on behalf of MDOT.
