Last week a special promotion to benefit Saline Celtic Festival was announced. Themed around Star Wars imagery, this event will be held locally at our own Emagine Theatre on East Michigan Avenue on Tuesday, June 26 with doors opening at 6:00pm. Patrons are being encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costume from the movie franchise — reflecting either side of The Force. [1,2,3,4]

You know you’d love to participate. In fact, this is your chance to kick it up a notch or two. You’ve read about Motor City Comic Con and felt motivated. But where can you go in this area during the roughly month remaining between now and our Celtic opening? [5]

Saline Journal has your answer.

Detroit Institute of Arts is hosting a special limited-run exhibit titled “Star Wars and the Power of Costume.” Featuring more than sixty original outfits from the first seven motion pictures, you’ll draw inspiration from a spectrum that runs “from Queen Amidala’s lavish gowns to Darth Vader’s imposing black armor.” Better still, many of the galleries within cover the materials and processes that went into the creation of these unforgetable masterpieces. [6]

Need even more advice? Saline Journal asked Emagine Entertainment Chairman Paul Glantz the question that’s likely now top of mind for our readers: If he was to attend this fundraiser in costume as a Star Wars character, which character would that be?

“A mature Hans Solo. I would really like to go as Chewbacca, but I’m told that it gets awfully hot inside that costume.”

He also had some specific thoughts on Saline Celtic Festival itself. The sheep herding dog demonstration, he revealed, holds a special place in his heart. “My sons were young when the movie Babe came out and it remains one of our favorite family films.” Mr Glantz then added this.

Signature events, like the Celtic Festival, serve as a source of community pride and they create a bond among the residents, volunteers, and visitors who partake of such festivities. Candidly, Saline is one of our favorite communities and though we are privileged to do business in a number of locales, we consider ourselves to be a local business in each of our markets. Accordingly, it is only fitting that we support events that help enrich the communities we serve.

Who could ask for more encouragement than that?

The June 26 event is being put together by The Friends of the Saline Celtic Festival in cooperation with Mayor Brian Marl and the Michigan Chapter of the 501st Legion, and in partnership with Emagine Theatre. The price of admission gets you two events in one. First, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, there will be a “meet and greet” offering photo opportunities with Star Wars characters. Then, starting at 7:00pm, you’ll enjoy a special screening of The Force Awakens or another movie of your choice there. [7]

Tickets are available online at SalineCeltic.org, Emagine Theatre, and at Saline City Hall — priced at $20 for adults and $15 for children twelve and under. Each ticket includes a movie, character meet and greet, “bottomless soda,” “bottomless popcorn,” and give-aways. No word yet on whether or not Chewbacca will appear however. [8]
