Now returning for its third year at Travis Pointe Country Club golf course, there should be little doubt that the 2018 Volvik Championship next week will be exciting to watch from start to finish. Broadcast coverage will be great. In-person, fantastic. [1,2,3,4]

Playing in the Pro-Am might be even better. But if that’s not you, there’s a lower-octane options well worth considering. [5]

It’s called the “Long Putt Challenge.”

Located on Travis Pointe grounds near “Expo Row,” between the first tee box and the eighteenth green, this special setup will allow fans attending the event to attempt a twenty-foot putt. Those who do will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a $500 gift card from local merchant and Challenge sponsor Lewis Jewelers. Prior to participating, you’ll of course want to make an on-site charitable donation in support of CS Mott Children’s Hospital.

Tournament Director Keith Karbo cited this partnership as indicative of the importance that LPGA Volvik Championship places on continuing to expand its community ties even as the tournament grows on the world stage.

Dr John R Charpie MD PhD, Co-Director of the CS Mott Congenital Heart Center, echoed this priority in discussion with Saline Journal, emphasizing the value of having multiple giving opportunities here, “including the Lewis Jewelers Long Putt Challenge. [8]

“I would love to see local businesses more involved from a charitable perspective. In turn, I think that we are responsible for providing an outstanding training environment and employment opportunities for our students and graduates from the multitude of local institutions of higher learning.”

In addition to the Long Putt winner raffle, Lewis Jewelers will also present a $2500 gift card to the top player from the 2018 LPGA Volvik Championship. That implies making a more personal connection between the golfer and this community.

“It can give her a regional touch,” Lewis Jeweler Assistant Manager Keith Largin explained. “Jewelry can capture a moment. This is a fun way to commemorate the win.

“Diamond earrings are something every girl should have,” he said, for example. [9]

“Every affiliation helps, is important,” added Bruce Madej, Public Relations Director for the Volvik Championship. “Part of the job of any event — Art Fair, Celtic Festival — is to improve the quality of life, to drive the economy as much as we can. That means driving business to hotels and restaurants and retail. We want all of this to be a vibrant as it can be. That’s what you see here.”

It’s the same in turn for those businesses, their partnerships with attractions such as the LPGA Volvik Championship and the worthwhile work of CS Mott Children’s Hospital.

“If we don’t have community, we don’t have anything,” Mr Largin emphasized.
