via press release: “Whitmer raises $1M above entire 2018 campaign already, shatters fundraising records
With more than $8.6 million raised this period, campaign sets all-time fundraising record by gubernatorial campaign in an off-year
Lansing – The campaign to re-elect Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has raised $1 million more than the entirety of what was raised during the 2018 election cycle, retaining a healthy position to communicate our message with more than $10.6 million in cash on hand, according to campaign finance reports filed today.
This represents the largest fundraising achievement in Michigan history by a gubernatorial campaign in an off year.
‘Gov Whitmer is a fighter for Michigan who puts Michigan families first and this record-shattering achievement puts the campaign in a strong position to communicate her track record of success,’ said Mark Fisk, spokesperson for the Whitmer for Governor Campaign. ‘This unprecedented fundraising achievement is even more remarkable given the early and unprecedented attacks from national groups, special interests and other extremists spending over $1 million on ads trying to distort the Governor’s record and lie to the people of Michigan.’
More than $8.6 million was raised for the period, according to paperwork filed with the state today. To date, the campaign has raised $14.2 million – $1 million above the 2018 cycle.
Other highlights of the fundraising report include:
-
- More than 10,000 new donors gave during the fundraising period.
- Donations were received from every county across the state.
- The average donation was $211.58, with more than 37,000 donations less than $200.
- Donations came from over 25,000 contributors, with the majority of those based in Michigan.
‘Today’s record-shattering report is a testament to Gov Whitmer’s support and her record of putting Michigan first,’ said Brieann Sauer, finance director for the Whitmer for Governor Campaign. ‘After leading our state through the greatest public health crisis in a century, Gov Whitmer is focused on rebuilding our economy, standing up for working families, setting K-12 education on a new path without raising taxes and don’t forget – fixing the damn roads.’
