Some explanation is in order here. The image above is obviously not from the Travis Pointe Country Club golf course, and the CS Mott Children’s Hospital Pro-Am was the furthest thing imaginable from a round of putt-putt golf. [1,2,3]
Despite a bit of bothersome rain, teams led by Beth Allen, Katherine Perry, and Katherine Kirk took top honors there. Moreover, according to a spokesperson from the University of Michigan, this event raised more than $220,000 for the CS Mott Children’s Hospital Congenital Heart Center. [4,5,6,7]

In anticipated follow-up to the Pro-Am, Bruce Madej of the Volvik Championship and Dr John R Charpie MD PhD, Co-Director of the CS Mott Congenital Heart Center, made arrangements for three golfers from the upcoming tournament to visit the hospital yesterday. A miniature golf course was set up in the courtyard just outside the main entry area and children were invited out to play however they wished.
Chella Choi, Katherine Kirk, and Cheyenne Woods made the 7½-mile trip to make meaningful connections, give lessons (of a sort), and make the day a little brighter. These highly accomplished women have made a combined career earnings in excess of ten million dollars. Before Memorial Day, that number may change significantly. Stay tuned. [8,9]

When asked about the thinking behind that, Dr Charpie didn’t hesitate before answering.
“It’s important for everyone to see why we ask for funding, why we need it. This gives the children a better chance to be winners, and we are all grateful for that.”
