Eleventh annual Saline Scarecrow Contest “Getting Back to Our Roots” with “Farming & Agriculture” announced as 2022 theme

August 12, 2022
As summer draws to its close and the meaning of “outdoors” shifts from recreational swimming and home lawn maintenance, to the ebb and flow of accumulating leaves dropped from deciduous trees, so, too, does this month mark the start of 2022 Scarecrow Contest planning for the City of Saline. Earlier this week, event organizer Dr Robert Borer sat down with Saline Journal in his West Michigan Avenue establishment to announce the theme for this year: “Farming & ....

You Should Get to Know former Saline Resident Webster Ruckman at Some Point in Your Memorial Day Schedule

May 28, 2018
Early this morning the sun also came up over the old section of Oak Wood Cemetery. That has surely been the case for the past 156 years, with or without parades, even before there was a Memorial Day. [2,3] When Saline Journal spoke to event organizers the night before their 2017 opening, ....

[1-7] Two weeks ago, Troop 439 held its first meeting as another among the more recent additions to this 109-year legacy. That Monday, February 4, largely passed without fanfare or note. ....

Rising tide of abortion legislation in state legislatures leads me to believe this will be a key issue in 2020 elections

May 6, 2019
From the Editor— It’s become increasingly common to hear presidential candidates’ positions on Roe v Wade dismissed as a non-issue, arguing that it is “settled law.” [1-4] I’ve often questioned the fundamental premise of this debate — for both sides. We’re talking about a Supreme Court Opinion here. The United States Constitution makes it clear that laws come from the legislative branch. This was also covered in an episode of Schoolhouse Rock as well for those who eschew reading ....
