Almost a year after groundbreaking on the campus of the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners Michigan, the ribbon will be cut this coming Sunday on a brand new building dedicated to Cadillac and LaSalle automobiles. [1,2]
This facility is owned an operated by the Cadillac-LaSalle Club Museum and Research Center (CLCMRC), itself founded in 1995 under the Cadillac & LaSalle Club, established in 1958. Currently, it houses about a dozen vehicles in rented space on the Gilmore campus and keeps its library of collected records in a distant Dexter Michigan facility. [5]
The newly constructed structure scheduled to open on September 28 is 10,000 square feet in size and “modeled after a 1948 dealership design from the pages of General Motors book ‘Planning Automobile Dealer Properties’ of that year.” Approximately two dozen vehicles will be displayed within, along with other important artifacts and educational items. [6,7]
To support ongoing needs for fundraising and facilitate progress reporting to backers, Saline Journal parent D² Enterprises was chosen to develop and manage CLCMRC social media from the point of groundbreaking until just before opening weekend. [8]
D² Enterprises also produced a pre-opening teaser video and preview of the Bob Klopfer Allanté car donation. Last Thursday, the official construction documentary was released in time to help stimulate interest in the ribbon-cutting and support additional media coverage of that event.
Gilmore Car Museum is located 110 miles west-northwest of Saline, although necessary travel on country roads for the last leg of the trip put travel time by car close to two hours.
