via Food Gatherers on social media: “April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week! #BMHW is a week of awareness, activism, and community building intended to bring visibility to Black-led maternal health initiatives and to address the root causes of poor maternal health outcomes.
Black women face structural and systemic #inequities that impact their health. In the U.S., Black women with low socioeconomic status are more likely to experience poor #nutrition, inadequate housing, and greater exposure to environmental hazards—all of which contribute to overall health.
We believe that every woman deserves #access to quality health care, including baby care and nutrition resources like diapers, baby food, and formula.
These items are often expensive and can be difficult to access for parents with tight budgets. One of our partner agencies shared, “Being able to provide a family with formula is essential in being able to ensure each family member is taken care of properly.” Together, Food Gatherers and our partners work to ensure that parents have access to resources to support their child’s health.
Recently, we received a grant from @costco and @feedingamerica to purchase 520 cases of infant formula. We also purchase additional supplies and accept donations of baby care and nutrition items.
