Update on status of on-time mail delivery: Between October 10 and 16, “the most recent week for which data is available, the Postal Service delivered only 85.6% of First-Class mail on time, 5.5 percentage points below the on-time delivery rates prior to Postmaster General DeJoy’s July 2020 directive,” according to information released earlier today by Senator Gary Peters, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

“In Michigan, during the same time period, only 71.6% of First-Class mail was delivered on time in the Detroit District — the second worst performance of any District in the country for the most recent time period for which data is available.”

According to the United States Postal Service (USPS), the “delivery standard” for First-Class Mail is one to three business days (noting that this is not guaranteed). The USPS has gone on to currently recommend that its customer service operation be contacted after five or more days have passed since date of mailing.
