At the stroke of midnight, voting came to an end for this, the latest Saline Scarecrow Contest. Twelve hours later, event organizer Dr Rob Borer was on back on the streets downtown, awarding ribbons to community favorites. [1-4]
“We think it’s important to have a theme each year,” Dr Borer told Saline Journal this afternoon. “It helps keep the contest fresh, and it helps set each year apart in a special way. I think people like the challenge, too.
I’m never going to say ‘I was surprised by what people created with this — because I’m always surprised! Saline is amazing. Their scarecrows are always amazing.
Sometimes that meant knocking it out of the ballpark with our 2021 recommended theme of patriotism. Sometimes it meant doing something incredible outside of the box.
This year, our Scarecrow Contest saw sixteen contributions. From these, the organizer and tallies of public votes resulted in fourteen awards — with some particularly impressive scarecrows taking ribbons in multiple categories. The following list is organized by entry name. [5]
