Earlier this year, actor Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney Studios, alleging that she had “lost out on tens of millions of dollars in box office bonuses” when Black Widow was released through streaming services concurrently with its first run in theaters. After having delayed release of the motion picture due to COVID-19, the studio asserted that it had made its decision to go with dual channels in an effort to balance public health concerns with financial need to move forward with getting completed projects to market.
The story adds another layer to vested interests of operations such as those of our own Emagine Theater here in Saline.
