New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has just announced his resignation from office, according to a report filed by Joseph Ax for Reuters within the last half hour.

In an opening with a level of irony that speaks as much to the state of journalism as the politician himself, the piece begins by asserting: “For much of last year, [he] was perhaps the most trusted politician in America ….

On Tuesday, however, Cuomo resigned in the wake of a report by New York Attorney General Letitia James that found he sexually harassed 11 women ….

Not immediately mentioned in that coverage was the the Attorney General James report was issued a full week ago, on August 3.

Deeper into the Reuters item, Mr. Ax mentioned the fact that Governor Cuomo had also faced “scrutiny over whether his administration sought to conceal the extent of nursing home deaths ….”
