Not so fast: Before you head out for summertime activities in the summer sunshine, check your sunscreen.

In an article titled “Avoid Expired Sunscreen As Study Finds Carcinogen Can Build Up” by Dr Daliah Wachs MD, reference is made to a 2020 Food and Drug Administration recommendation that sunscreen be discarded if “past its expiration date.

If your sunscreen doesn’t have an expiration date, the FDA suggests discarding it 3 years after purchase.

Moreover if the color changes or it has an oder, the product should be discarded as well.

Now a study published in Chemical Research in Toxicology has found the octocrylene in many sunscreen and anti-aging products can degrade into benzophenone, a known carcinogen, mutagen, and endocrine disruptor ….
