Federal funding in the amount of $15.6 million has been authorized “to rehabilitate railroad tracks, replace over 16 miles of rail and enhance track crossing protections in the corridor between Ypsilanti and Jackson,” according to joint announcement issued yesterday by Michigan Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow.
According to Paul C Ajegba, Michigan Department of Transportation Director, “This grant will help our efforts to improve forty-two rail curves on Amtrak’s Wolverine corridor, making it safer for customers.
We are appreciative of the efforts by Senators Peters and Stabenow as we work to implement higher speeds and more efficient travel between Chicago and Detroit.
