BBC Doctor Who adventure “Logopolis” will come to the big screen at Emagine Theatre in Saline Michigan, thanks to Fathom Events. [1-4]

• March 13 (Wednesday), with showing starting at 7:00pm

Spawned on television in the early 1960s, this is almost as much a genre in and of itself as it is series. For those appropriately indoctrinated, little more than announcement is likely needed here for draw. In summary, “Logopolis” marks final appearance of Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor, on to regeneration of fifth. [5,6]

For those who might accompany such steeped fans, and everyone else, here’s a brief summary.

The Doctor is an alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels through all of time and space in the TARDIS with friends. Instead of dying, the Doctor is able to “regenerate” into a new body, taking on a new personality with each regeneration. [7-11]

Stepping back eighteen years and three Doctors prior, Radio Times seemed to take as much delight in ill-defining what was to follow on November 23, 1963 as in introducing it.

Dr Who? That is just the point. Nobody knows precisely who he is, this mysterious exile from another world and distant future whose adventures begin today. But this much is known: he has a ship in which he can travel through space and time — although, owing to a defect in its instruments he can never be sure where and when his ‘landings’ may take place. Beyond that, any number of great quick starts are available free on the web, with plenty of time for review before March 13. But a key point to remember is this. The main character is not “Doctor Who,” but, rather, just the Doctor. [13,14]
