Last night, Saline City Council added a unique print to one of the walls in its chambers during a special dedication last night.
The image features the 1986 downtown Saline skyline and mini Indianapolis-styled race cars competing right on Michigan Avenue as part of the first “Pre-Prix” held here that summer. [1,2]
As part of the ceremony, Mayor Brian Marl and Council Member Linda TerHaar recognized d2 Saline (originally known by the name D² Enterprises) as “artist.” Janet Deaton, Saline Journal publisher and d2 Saline proprietor, participated in the unveiling.
During his remarks, Mayor Marl noted that this print is intended to be a permanent part of Saline City Council Chamber decor. His vision is that it serve as the first in a growing series of pieces to come from local artists, in a variety of mediums, in shaping the cultural environment of City Hall. [3]
This Pre-Prix print is a personal gift from Brian Marl to the City of Saline. He told of having become aware of it through the Saline Craft Show earlier this year and “ordered one immediately.”
In addition to the print, Mayor Marl showed an official Saline Pre-Prix shirt from the 1986 event, brought in for the ceremony by former Council Member Mary Hess.
